It’s not every day that a company gets awarded the title of “World Market Leader” (Weltmarktführer in German), but that’s exactly what MK Illumination was awarded on 25th January 2018 by Wirtschaftswoche, a highly respected weekly German-speaking business magazine.
This year, MK Illumination earned its place in the “World Market Leader” index, as the “World Market Leader Champion 2018” in the “Media & Entertainment” category, in the “Creation of light and theme worlds and staging of places with festive decoration” segment.
Being awarded the title of “World Market Leader” isn’t a simple matter. The BWL Professor Christoph Müller of the HBM Entrepreneurship School of the University of St. Gallen examined self-proclaimed world leaders and rejected many of them because they don’t meet a strict set of criteria.
The criteria are as follows:
- World market leaders must have the highest or second highest market share in their segment.
- Their annual turnover must EUR 50 million or higher.
- At least half of that annual turnover must be generated internationally.
- World market leaders must be active on at least three continents.
Every year Müller and his team review companies, both in Germany and in German-speaking countries like Switzerland and Austria, to identify true world market leaders and separate the self-proclaimed from those that meet the stringent criteria above, using a transparent index developed in cooperation with the Academy of German World Market Leaders (Akademie Deutscher Weltmarktführer – ADWM).
We’re thrilled to bits to officially be world market leaders, but without our customers and the MK Illumination team across the world, it simply wouldn’t have been possible. So a big thanks to you all, and of course to Wirtschaftswoche for the award.
