MK Illumination at Christmasworld 2018 – a tour
After months of planning, and designing, and developing, and finally arriving at Christmasworld 2018 in Frankfurt, our time here is drawing to a close. We thought that it might be interesting to take a quick look at what we brought to the trade fair and give you a personal tour around the stand, so to speak.
We’ll start by entering the stand with the reception area to our left and a clear view of the ‘Candle tree’ and ‘Magic Shopping Lanterns’ before us.
Both displays use Abraxus by MK Illumination – Abraxus Flames in the ‘Magic Shopping Lanterns’ and Abraxus Candles in the ‘Candle Tree’.
These two displays can be appreciated separately, but their animation effects are integrated, allowing waves of color to flow from the lowest candles in the tree to the highest, and then through the floating shopping lanterns above
Upon entering the stand and turning right, you will see the tongue-in-cheek photo booth with a backdrop that features an astronaut harvesting stars for Christmas. Titled ‘Snowfall Stars Photo Booth’, the foreground contains varying sizes of Snowfall Echo Stars from the Snowfall by MK Illumination range, and visitors can take photos of one another in the guise of the astronaut.
The booth is fully integrated with an Instagram printer. Take a photo and upload it to Instagram using the hashtag #mkcheerup, and you’ll able to pick up an automatically printed copy of your photo.
The next stop is the cleverly titled ‘Colour Cloud’.
In order to showcase MK Illumination’s Abraxus iBalls, Abraxus Orbitals and products from the Organics range, our design team chose to recreate an experience – a thunderstorm! The products are cleverly presented against a backdrop of a lightning-filled sky, and integrated sounds of rain and thunder; piped-in smoke; and animated lighting creates an atmosphere that changes from ominous (during the storm) to cheerful (after the storm), which gives you an inkling of the many possibilities available with our products.
Directly opposite the ‘Colour Cloud’ is the ‘Tonight Will Be’ concept.
Featuring XXL Edison Bulbs from the Abraxus by MK Illumination range, our creative team designed a fun, interactive display that uses the individually addressable and programmable LEDs to create an animation that stops randomly on a single bulb, on which a prediction is written. The ability to program a variety of colors, thanks to the RGB support, and the interactivity built into the display, means that visitors simply have to smile.
The next stop on the tour is the ‘Light Grapes’ display, featuring 40 Abraxus XL Edison Bulbs clustered together to form a giant bunch of grapes.
The bulbs are finished with a gold coating that makes the design visually appealing during day and night (and an interesting concept for countries who celebrate Christmas during the summer months, for example), and the rapid-fire animation brings the grapes to life in darker settings.
The ‘Tubular Chandelier’ is a real statement piece, formed from 120 multi-colored Snowfall Tubes from the Snowfall by MK Illumination range. Each tube’s animation is slightly out of sync with the others, creating a feeling of continuous movement and leaving you filled with energy.
Last but certainly not least is a presentation of products that uses elements from Barcana by MK Illumination combined with our 3D structures and lighting products.
‘Hedda Sheep’ features three sheep, clothed in different designs to show visitors that material traditionally used for wreaths and garlands can be used completely differently to create festive creations that visitors enjoy seeing. The calmest of the 8 displays, the sheep graze peacefully in a sketched pastoral setting, surrounded by flocked trees, also from Barcana.
The stand itself was busy from start to finish, and it was wonderful seeing new faces and spending time with long-standing partners and clients, too.
All in all, the verdict was that this may just have been our best Christmasworld yet!
